Catching the Next Big Opportunity

POSTED July 19th, 2011

When Christian Lopez caught Derek Jeter’s 3000th hit, he became the talk of the sports world. Suddenly everyone from shock jocks to cable news anchors wanted a piece of his story.

As the world turned to Christian, Christian turned to JCPR for help.

Between the constant media attention and the looming threat of owing thousands to the IRS, Christian didn’t know what to do or where to start.

Continuing our constant mission to “pay it forward,” JCPR jumped in to help Christian figure out the end game and how he could use his moment in the limelight to address his immediate financial issues and ensure his place in baseball history was something he could look back on with only positive memories.

Our team strategized to make sure Christian was ready to face the press. We set up interviews with high-profile media outlets to calm the frenzy. We coordinated with companies who wanted to help Christian -- a true New Yorker and Yankees’ fan -- but didn’t know the best way to approach the situation.

The results were overwhelming: the tax issues cleared up, companies offered to help Christian pay off his student loans and, ultimately, he was able to enjoy his moment as a part of baseball history.

We are proud to have been involved in this compelling story. We offered Christian the same strategy and flawless execution we give to our clients every day. We mobilized to meet his immediate needs while always keeping the bigger picture in focus.

That is the difference between mere publicity and strategic communications: The difference between having the media camped out on your lawn and shaking hands with baseball greats at a press conference; the difference between owing thousands of dollars in taxes and having a major sporting goods store step up to reward your good deeds; the difference between reacting to events and proactively using the spotlight to achieve your goals.

This is what JCPR helped Christian achieve in a day. Imagine what we can do as an integrated partner to your business.

JCPR: It Happens Here.
