Huffington Post Scores Big on Super Bowl Sunday
In an unexpected move on Super Bowl Sunday, AOL and Huffington Post have signed an agreement to merge. Announced early Monday, AOL will be acquiring Huffington Post, which was co-founded in 2005 by Arianna Huffington, and attracts nearly 25 million visitors each month.
On Huffington’s blog, she explains how the acquisition came into place—and to some the decision to merge may be a hasty one. To others, who share Huffington’s vision, the merge is brilliant.
Huffington made clear her goals for the online news publication early this year. If you look closely at the goals, you will see a common theme: opportunities. With opportunities must come change, and Huffington was prepared to make some major changes.
For any business owner, succeeding is based on a sequence of carefully planned tactics and execution. You must learn how to adapt to new technologies and embrace the digital world. In order to keep up with competitors, a revamped business model could be exactly what’s missing.
As Huffington put it:
“…even very successful companies, with very capable personnel, often fail because they tend to stick too closely to the strategies that made them successful in the first place, leaving them vulnerable to changing conditions and new realities. They miss major opportunities because they are unwilling to disrupt their own game.”
What can we learn from Arianna Huffington’s decision to merge with AOL? Don’t be afraid to take risks, because if you don’t, you will never know what opportunities are passing you by.
