The Importance of a Quality Website

POSTED February 15th, 2011

As a society, whether we like it or not, we have reached a point where websites are a part of everyday life when it comes to smart business. Years ago a reception area and receptionist was thought of as “the face of the company”. Today that has become your company’s website, a necessity to all businesses and equally as important as a CEO. A website should always be accurately executed and properly maintained.

When a person wants to learn more about a business the first thing he or she will do is look for the website. If the business’ website is unfinished, poorly executed, or worse—non-existent, the individual will be turned off, resulting in a loss of potential business. The same can be said for reporters and writers in a public relations campaign.

Any business that wants to succeed should have a website and use it to its utmost potential. A well organized and routinely updated website will prove to be an invaluable resource. A potential customer, client and even reporter can learn about who you are as a company, what you stand for and most importantly become convinced as why to choose your company above all the others. Put simply, a website provides credibility for your business.

Not only can a website be a place to showcase how outstanding your business is with achievements and testimonials from past and present clients/customers, it also proves you care enough to put time and effort into your business.

From a public relations standpoint, when your company is being pitched to writers and publications they have to be convinced and buy into your company just as any client or customer would. Writers and reporters are not being paid by your company to write about you. Therefore, they need to be convinced of why your business is significant in order to spend time writing about you.

Just as potential customers, reporters will first research the company. If he or she sees the website in shambles or no website at all, the company’s credibility is out the door. To reporters it screams “You don’t care enough about your business to put time into it, so why should I, and why should my readers?”

An amazing public relations success is when a reader can feel the genuine enthusiasm from the writer when reading the piece. A website can help provide that excitement for the writer who in return shares it with the audience.

Keep in mind, a website does not have to be fancy with a lot of bells and whistles it just has to be of quality. With that said, here are five main ingredients your business’ website should always have in order to stand tall.

  1. Existence
  2. Links & Pages that work properly
  3. Updated Information
  4. Correct Grammar & Spelling
  5. Easy to Navigate

By having these easy, necessary steps your business will begin to sell itself to clients as well as reporters and that means success!
