Webinar Takeaways: Facebook for PR Success
Earlier this week, I participated in a webinar presented by PR News, “Facebook Essentials: Leveraging the Latest Features for PR Success”.
During the hour and a half long webinar, in which we heard from three presenters with differing social media backgrounds and experience, participants learned how to engage your Facebook page followers, leverage your Facebook to create traditional media opportunities and even how to create a process to respond to negative comments and criticism—one of many reasons why companies hold back from social media practices.
Here are some useful tips from the presentation:
- A social media plan should always have goals (Ex: Drive traffic to main website, receive feedback from fans, develop new business leads)
- Keep content stream full and interesting
- Develop a response guide for fan comments (high-risk, low-risk and moderate)
- Consumers have a right to express their opinion
- Avoid deleting negatives comments/objective opinions
- Respond immediately if a crisis erupts; mind your ethics
- Use Facebook Insights to monitor growth & measure interactions
- Assign social media to a dedicated staffer
- Train your team so everyone can be involved
I learned a lot of great information from this webinar and from the skillful presenters. I always appreciate the opportunity to participate in webinars such as this one; it really opens up the creative mind to opportunities social media present that may not have been recognized before.
Presenters included Rich Pesce, Senior Manager, Social Media & Digital Communications at Sprint, Jason Winocour, Social & Digital Media Practice Leader/Agency Partner from Hunter Public Relations and Angela Montefinise, Public Relations Director at the New York Public Library.
